John Wasson's Cool Brass Jazztet

Date: Mon, Aug 19, 2024
Time 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM

John Wasson’s creation of this innovative group was born out of two sources: his discovery and appreciation for the great Miles Davis album Birth of the Cool with its unique instrumentation, and his role as Tuba player in the Dallas Brass. Together these experiences formed the idea for an acoustic brass ensemble with drums that could play jazz classics, and the CoolBrass Jazztet was born.

The Jazztet performs a mix of works from the Cool period, classic jazz standards in various styles, and original works. The group has performed at various venues around the DFW Metroplex including the Fort Worth Main Street Arts Festival, and two appearances at the “Blast of Brass” summer workshops. They have also appeared at the Jazz Educators Network annual conference in New Orleans.
