The Week After....

Good Monday Afternoon!

It was a week of fun, activities, wine, specials, live music, and friendship. It all started on August 2nd with Karen's Birthday at the bar, and it continued through yesterday as we wrapped up several nights of specials, music, and gatherings. We topped it all off last night with a Tapas dinner with Spanish wines. It's time to take a breath and focus on the coming days.

Thank you to all who came out and shared a bit of their time with us as we celebrated 9 years of serving you and the Denton community.

For those who were not able to join us, we still have several Steve's Wine Bar glasses and the glass toppers available at the $9 price. And we have our new T-shirts and long-sleeve shirts we brought in for the party. So, stop in and pick up a few gift items, or something for yourself.

  • Today we have live music with Paul Metzger on guitar, from 4 - 6. And then 6 to 8, we have the Summer Jazz Jam.
  • On Wednesday, we have more live music with Jace and Lily as they have their final performance in Denton before moving on to their next stages in life.
  • Friday, DJ Rice is back with his quintet. It's always an amazing performance with DJ and his band.
  • Saturday afternoon at 3, Off The Rails is back with their Bluegrass music.
  • Saturday night at 7:30, the incredible Carlos Averhoff is returns to Steve's with his quartet.
  • Sunday at 3 PM, we have our group tasting event, where we will drink through all 9 featured wines this month.

You can visit our events page to learn more about these experiences and more. Make sure to reserve your seats for the nights you want to attend.

Check our website and social media to stay in touch with all our events.

One of the specials we had on Saturday was a tasting of a highly regarded wine. The Beaulieu Vineyards ‘Georges de Latour’ Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon was a hit with those who tasted it, and we have about 2/3 of a bottle available for those who want to swing by and give it a try before it's gone.

You can read more about this wine on our Blog.

Don't forget to vote for Steve's for the Best of Denton County. Voting ends Tomorrow!

We look forward to seeing you soon!

From all of us here at Steve's Wine Bar, Cheers!

Anniversary Week at Steve's

It’s Steve’s Wine Bar's anniversary week! It’s amazing to think we are finishing 9 years of business! When we think back to May of 2016, when we agreed to purchase the wine bar, our goal was to open by July 1 that year. We ran into a few challenges that pushed our official open date to August 5th.

As we considered this opportunity that we had stepped into, we decided to sign a two-year lease just in case we found out that running a wine bar was not something we would like, or be good at. That way, we could walk away and find another project to work on.

At the end of the two years, in July 2019, we were looking to renew our lease for another 5 years. We asked the landlord for some support in updating the space, and we were told no. So we walked down Industrial and saw a space going up for lease, and we grabbed that.

And here we are. A new location from when we started. A wonderful staff that helps the business run with ease. So many people come through these doors who have worked with us, supported us, and helped make this a successful part of the Denton community. The list is way too long to note here, but we will acknowledge several people this week as we celebrate this anniversary.

Today, we officially celebrate the 9th anniversary.  We will have specials on wine, live music in the afternoon and evening, and our new T-shirts will be delivered later today. We also have specials on our Steve’s Wine Bar glasses, normally $12 a stem, but this week, $9 a stem. Plus, our backyard glass covers normally go for $12 a 4-pack, and we have those available at $9 per 4-pack. Inventory is limited on everything, so don’t delay in stopping by this week.

Saturday, we will have a bigger party celebrating the 9th on the 9th, with more music, more specials, and other fun things for you to enjoy.

Between Tuesday and Saturday, we have music every night. So don’t miss out on the fun.

On Sunday, we will be closed all day as we are hosting a special 50th anniversary party for a special couple.

On Monday, August 11th, we have our third international dinner of the year. We hosted an Italian dinner in June, a French dinner in July, and now we swing through Spain with a Tapas dinner and Spanish wines.

Make sure you check our website and social media, and stay in touch with all our events.

One of the specials we have on Saturday is tasting a very special wine. We will be doing a two-ounce or larger pour of the Beaulieu Vineyards ‘Georges de Latour’ Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon.

A few months ago, we decided to bring in one of the most expensive wines we have ever purchased, the Beaulieu Vineyards ‘Georges de Latour’ Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. Rarely do we bring in such an expensive wine, and we have many quality Cabernets, some from Napa Valley, on our menu. We splurged on this wine, which was named the #2 pick from Wine Spectator in 2024. We wanted to offer something extra-special beyond what we normally have here at the wine bar. According to BV’s website, this wine “has been widely recognized as the benchmark Cabernet Sauvignon from Rutherford since its inaugural vintage in 1936. Our understanding of terroir comes from more than 100 years of creating rich, classic Napa Valley wines.” It is an investment piece, one worth cellaring, but it’s also poised to drink now. We will pour it by Coravin exclusively at our 9th anniversary celebration on August 9th for $9 an ounce (2-oz minimum), so you can say you have had one of the world’s greatest wines.

You can read more about this wine on our Blog.

Don't forget to vote for Steve's for the Best of Denton County. Voting ends on August 13.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

From all of us here at Steve's Wine Bar, Cheers!

A couple of events we are adding to our schedule in July, which you may want to mark your calendar for:

  • The Di Abruzzo Dinner is still scheduled for July 7th.

Make sure you check out our Events page to learn about our schedule of events.

Visit our Events page to see all our upcoming events.

Cheryl will be joining us on a regular basis to share fun facts, cool stories, and interesting information about wine in our emails.

This month, we are featuring aroma kits to go along with our featured wines. As you know, I often like to inject a bit of education into the club tasting experience (although there are months where we simply enjoy the wines without thinking too hard about them!). In picking aromas, I chose professional-grade scents, mostly food flavorings, that should hold up throughout the month, one per wine. The biggest question is not to guess what you are smelling, although that does become a quandary, but if you agree with the winemaker that the scent is indeed in the wine.

Read more online.

Have a great week!

Happy Tuesday!

We are halfway through June and heading straight into summer!

We have a fun week ahead, and a couple of dates you should put on your calendar.

We had a fun night last night with the Monday Movie Night. The popcorn machine was working, and we showed the first two episodes of the Apple TV program, Drops of God. We will continue that next Monday with episodes 3 and 4.

Thursday night, we have live music with an amazing young performer, Margaret Nicholson. She will be doing a solo piano show. This last month, when we first had her on stage, the place was packed, and she wowed the crowd. We still have a few open reserve seats that you can grab, or simply walk in and join us on Thursday.

We will be back at Discover Denton on Thursday from 6 - 8, sampling a few wines for the last Twilight Tunes of the season. Please stop by and say hello if you are in the area.

Friday night, we have another young lady, Julie Coggiola, who has performed here in the past, but as a member of other groups. She will lead her own show entitled "The Men I've Loved".

Saturday at 3 pm, Off The Rails is back with another round of Blue Grass and other fun tunes. No reservations or cover charge required.

Saturday evening, The Cats are Back at 7:30. We still have several reserved seats available, and we do have room for walk-ins with seating at the bar and high tops around the bar.

Sunday is our monthly Wine Club Group Tasting event starting at 3 PM. You don't have to be a club member to enjoy this experience. Pack up some snacks and join us! Reserve your table for two online.

A couple of events we are adding to our schedule in July, which you may want to mark your calendar for:

  • On July 2nd, 6 - 8 pm, we are doing an interactive wine tasting and blending event with Opolo. Jeff Faber will "Zoom in" from California and guide us through the tasting and blending experience. More details will be posted for this event on our website in the next day or two. So clear your calendar and come join us!
  • July 14 is Bastille Day, and we are putting together a fun French-style dinner for that Monday evening. Costs will be in the $70 range for 7 courses of classic French food, plus wines from France. Details are being finalized, and reservations will be online soon.
  • The Di Abruzzo Dinner is still scheduled for July 7th.

Make sure you check out our Events page to learn about our schedule of events.

Did you know that one of our stellar staff members is leaving us? Dean is moving on to another career, and his last night with us is this Friday, June 20th. Stop by and have a glass of wine or two and wish him well on his next stage of life. He is scheduled to serve until 9 pm, so if you want to be served by Dean, come early. If you want to come and drink with Dean, show up after 9. ;-) We will miss Dean and his amazing knowledge of wine, his style of sharing his experiences with our guests, and his desire to make you, our guests, feel special.

Have a great week!

Our Denton Community is Amazing!!!

We have an Italian Dinner planned for Monday, June 9th, with our friends from Di Abruzzo. Due to unforeseen circumstances, we have had to move the dinner to July 7th. What is amazing is that we reached out to a couple of folks here in Denton, and within an hour, we had Suzanne Johnson stepping in to help craft a menu for those who reserved space for the 9th.

With this change, we do have a few seats that have opened up for our Monday dinner. If you would like to join us, visit our website at www.steveswinebar.com to see the menu and reserve your seats.

For those who would like to reserve for the new date with Di Abruzzo, you can find that online at Dinner with Di Abruzzo.

Tonight we have a special performance with Cassandra Berry. She will be performing a piano bar experience along with showing her movie, The Take Away. Reservation fees and cover will help her and Susan participate in the coming festivals, which are showing her movie. If you can't attend, feel free to contribute through the online reservation and make a note that this is for a contribution only, or leave a Band Tip.

Tomorrow afternoon, Off the Rails is back with Bluegrass and more at 3 pm.

Saturday night, Hannah Claire Goodwin performs. For those who have attended our last couple of performances with our young singers, Georgia Barge and Margaret Nicholson, this will be another wonderful night of music.

Visit our Events page to see all our upcoming events.

Have a great weekend!

From all of us here at Steve's Wine Bar, Cheers!

Happy Wednesday!

We hope you had a great Memorial Day Weekend! It was fun on our end, even though it was a bit wet.

We have so much happening at Steve's over the next couple of weeks. We hope you will plan to spend some time with us at one or more of these events.

  • Tonight we have live music with vocalist and pianist Margaret Nicholson. Even though the reserved seats are sold, we have room for those walk-ins.
  • Thursday is jammed full of specials, starting with Half-Price Bottle night. Each month, we pick 10 wines to feature on Thursday night at a great price.
  • We are also doing a wine tasting on The Square on Thursday at Discover Denton. Steve will have three of our wines with him to sample, and if you like, purchase a bottle to enjoy during Twilight Tunes or to take home with you. We will be featuring the Quattro Theory wines we have specially priced for May.
  • You can still order the Quattro Theory Wines online. Let us know in your order notes if you would like Steve to bring those to the square with him for you to pick up this evening.
  • And, If you are headed to Twilight Tunes, please take some time to swing by Steve's to pick up a bottle or two. If you call and order before 5, we can bring those bottles to Discover Denton for you to pick up there. Check out our Bottle list online.
  • We also have jazz at Steve's with the Rob Parton 9-Tet, 7:30 - 9:30. Rob and the band will fill the place with their Big Band jazz.
  • Friday Night, we have the Texas Blues Crew at the bar. The place will be hoppin', so drop in early and stay late. :-)
  • Saturday will be a great day for all the Wine Club Members to come out and sample our May feature wines. There is no planned music, so a great day to come and relax, chat, and taste some amazing wines.
  • Not a Wine Club Member? Join the club, do your tasting by the end of June, and you will receive a special bonus wine to take home with you.
  • On Sunday, we have more live music with Gwynne Johnson from 6 pm to 8 pm.

We are looking forward to June, and we have two special events for you to consider.

On June 3, we have a special tasting event with California Winery, Brassfield Estates. We will be tasting five of their wines. Their new Texas rep stated that their wines are currently not available in retail stores. We will be the first to share them with you and our other customers here in the Denton area. Read more about Brassfield Estate Winery.

On June 9, we have a Guest Chef Dinner with the folks from Di Abruzzo here in Denton. They are planning a 5-course dinner paired with carefully selected wines from our cellar. Yes, I am getting fancy by calling our bottle room a cellar. :-) Reservations are $50 a person, and that will be applied to the tab the night of the dinner. Reserve today as we have limited seating for the evening.

Visit our Events page to see all our upcoming events.

Have a great week!

#DentonHalloween is Here!!

Good Tuesday afternoon!

We hope you have heard about how Denton is officially the Halloween City of Texas! We have 31 days of spookiness ahead of us here in the Downtown area and we hope you will come on down and check out all the fun!

We are participating in the excitement with special wines, a special weekend beverage, and all-around fun. We will have our skeleton friends, Stephen and Stephanie, here to take pictures with you and your friends.

Our featured wines for the month lean heavily into the Halloween theme through the names and labels of the wines. These are now available for you to enjoy by the glass today! Check out our Blog for the October Wine Club Wines to learn more about each of these fun wines.

The special "cocktail" created for our weekend fun is lovingly named, "The Bloody Spritz". It will be served on the weekends through October. A sparkling wine spritzer with a sugared rim and drowning in the glass is an eyeball!!! Well...a gummy eyeball. ;-)

Tonight, come over for a special musical experience with Lady Cass and the Fellas as we hit Halloween with their fun and spooky night of music. It's also a costume party and for those ready to get out and show off their character, there will be prizes for the best costumes.

Thursday nights, all month long, we have free music on Industrial with Twilight Tunes. We have set up the opportunity for you to reserve your seats at tables we are placing out front. Reservations will include your seat and your first beverage from a select list of wines and beers. Visit our Reservations page to reserve your seats in advance.

We also have 10 select wines we are doing at Half Price each Thursday to enjoy during your visit.

Monday Night Live Music on the 7th, with the great Brad Leali Tentet and Carla Helmbrecht featured on vocals. Brad is off on another gig that night, but the band will be swinging without him

You can still reserve your seats for tonight and Monday's musical events.

Steve's Events Page

Reserve your seats online at RESERVATIONS.

It's Festival Month here in Denton and this weekend starts off with the Arts and Jazz Fest. We hope you will make Steve's your stop before, during, and after your time at the park. We have wine and beer to go by the bottle and the glass. Yes, you can grab a glass of something from Steve's to walk with here in Downtown Denton. Bring your cooler by and let us fill it with chilled beer and cool wines, and we'll toss in some beverage cups in case you forgot yours. :-)

October 12th is Geezer Palooza, aka Industrial Street Pop Fest. We will have our large tent set up on the street for our customers to come and sit in the shade and enjoy the festivities.

October 25th - 27th is Day of the Dead. Saturday the 26th we will have a tent out front serving ice-cold beers and chilled wines to walk with. Of course we will have our full menu available inside. And we will be showing the Coffin Races on our TV's inside and on the back patio for those who don't want to stand in the crowd.

Did you know that Steve's was voted as having the best wine list in Denton,

as well as a top shop for wine.

Have a great week and we look forward to seeing you soon!

Cheers! From all of us here at Steve's Wine Bar.

Heading Into October, Ahhhhhh.....

Happy Wet Monday!

We hope you had an amazing weekend and are enjoying this cooler weather!

Some of you will read the subject line one way, and some will read it another.

Are you the one reading it as relaxed anticipation of "Ahhhh.....finally we are into the fall."?

Or, are you one reading it as "AHHHHHHHHHHHH.....NO. I can't believe October is here already!"?

We are looking at it both ways. We can't believe it's October as it came way too fast. But on the other hand, it's patio weather.  It's festival season, and Denton is officially Halloween City of Texas! We have Jazz Fest, Industrial Street Pop Fest, Day of the Dead Fest, and there are likely other events we are not including.

October tends to be our second busiest month of the year next to December with the help of all the festivals happening, and much nicer weather to enjoy on the patio here in Downtown Denton.

We hope you will use Steve's Wine Bar as your base of operations when visiting Downtown for any, and all festivals and activities. With wine and beer to go, specials with a Halloween them, and just great tasting beverages, we hope you will make us your first stop before wandering around Denton. And YES, you can walk with a beer or a glass of wine in your hand while you enjoy the sights and sounds of Downtown Denton.

I mentioned in the last email that the roads around us are no longer blocked off due to construction. When you come down to Steve's, parking will be a little easier without the barriers. We suggest that if you can't find parking right in front or back of the wine bar, park at the church lot half a block away. It's super convenient and as long as you have your car out of the lot by midnight, everything should be fine.

So let's talk about the start of the next season here at Steve's.

Tonight at 7:00, we have another amazing guest vocalist, with Alyssa Allgood visiting from Chicago. If you attended our special "concert" back in February with Nicole Zuraitis, we think you will have a similar experience tonight. We still have a few reserved seats at $15, but when they are sold out, the cover charge tonight will be $20. So jump online ASAP before the reserved seats are sold out.

Tomorrow night, we have Shelly Denning in-house doing a special arts and crafts program 6:30 to 8:30.

Wednesday evening we have a new talent to Steve's Wine Bar with Alexandra Tayara hosting a solo show.

Saturday afternoon at a special time, 5 pm, we have another solo act with Júlia Coelho with a very special musical program on vocals, gothic harp, loop pedal, and psaltery. $10 reservations are still available.

Sunday is Birthday Sunday from 5 - 7 pm. Did you or a family member have a birthday this month? Come on down and enjoy a complimentary glass of wine or beer for the birthday person, and light snacks and sweets to enjoy with your beverages. Please reserve your spots as it will help us plan on the right amount of food to have for everyone.

Monday night is another special concert with Award Winning Saxophonist, Jack Lanhardt.

Tuesday is the first day of October, and it's the kick-off of Halloween here in Downtown Denton. We have a special evening planned with Lady Cass and the Fellas. Join us as we start the fun for October with some fun and "spooky" music with Cassandra Berry.

With all the events happening in Denton, rather than compete with them, we are keeping our event schedule on the lighter side for the month of October.

Every Thursday in October there will be live music right across the street from us in the park with the return of Twilight Tunes. Industrial Street will be closed on Thursday nights and we will be putting tables and chairs out front for our customers to sit and enjoy the music. Every Thursday is our Half-Price bottles, so come on down and take advantage of that along with any of the specials we will have for October.

Monday the 7th we will have the Brad Leali Tentet back for another amazing night of music.

Saturday the 19th we will have The Cats back for another special concert.

Stay tuned as we sprinkle in more solo performances and special afternoon experiences for you to enjoy.

Steve's Events Page

Reserve your seats online at RESERVATIONS.

People have been asking about Cigars. We had neglected to renew our Permit on time and are now waiting for the updated Permit to be delivered. As soon as that is done, we will move our Humidor back out to the main space and be ready to support your cigar needs when visiting Steve's.

Steve and Karen will be away from the bar for most of October. The staff here at Steve's look forward to serving you, your friends, and your family while they are away. They have put a lot of trust in the team to keep the business rolling, and we hope you will be here to support the team. With your help, we can continue to make October the second busiest month of the year here at Steve's.

Have a great week and we look forward to seeing you soon!

Cheers! From all of us here at Steve's Wine Bar.

Arbor Day - Steve's Wine Bar

Partnership

Through our partnership with non-profit environmental conservation organizations, Vina Robles plants trees with a portion of the proceeds from every bottle of The Arborist sold.

Partnering with One Tree Planted and the Arbor Day Foundation is a natural extension of the winery’s passion for trees and sustainable viticulture. One Tree Planted is a non-profit organization on a mission to make it simple for everyone to help the environment by planting trees. Founded in 2014, One Tree Planted has doubled the number of trees it has planted every year.

The Vision

"The Arborist, a dynamic red blend, is dedicated to our founder Hans Nef, and named for the arborist who saved the life of the iconic 300+ year-old oak tree featured on our label. Mr. Nef was known for his love of trees; he named the winery for them (robles is Spanish for “oaks”) and put an oak tree on the first Vina Robles wine label. That same tree still exists and is rooted in our estate Jardine Vineyard. Which is rather profound, as its health was declining when Mr. Nef purchased the vineyard in 1997. We are grateful to the arborist who was able to save it in 2014, allowing us all to continue to benefit from its beauty and positive environmental impact."

Join us on this Arbor Day and toast the world with a glass and/or a bottle of the Arborist.
