Good Tuesday afternoon!
We hope you have heard about how Denton is officially the Halloween City of Texas! We have 31 days of spookiness ahead of us here in the Downtown area and we hope you will come on down and check out all the fun!
We are participating in the excitement with special wines, a special weekend beverage, and all-around fun. We will have our skeleton friends, Stephen and Stephanie, here to take pictures with you and your friends.
Our featured wines for the month lean heavily into the Halloween theme through the names and labels of the wines. These are now available for you to enjoy by the glass today! Check out our Blog for the October Wine Club Wines to learn more about each of these fun wines.
The special "cocktail" created for our weekend fun is lovingly named, "The Bloody Spritz". It will be served on the weekends through October. A sparkling wine spritzer with a sugared rim and drowning in the glass is an eyeball!!! Well...a gummy eyeball. ;-)
Tonight, come over for a special musical experience with Lady Cass and the Fellas as we hit Halloween with their fun and spooky night of music. It's also a costume party and for those ready to get out and show off their character, there will be prizes for the best costumes.
Thursday nights, all month long, we have free music on Industrial with Twilight Tunes. We have set up the opportunity for you to reserve your seats at tables we are placing out front. Reservations will include your seat and your first beverage from a select list of wines and beers. Visit our Reservations page to reserve your seats in advance.
We also have 10 select wines we are doing at Half Price each Thursday to enjoy during your visit.
Monday Night Live Music on the 7th, with the great Brad Leali Tentet and Carla Helmbrecht featured on vocals. Brad is off on another gig that night, but the band will be swinging without him
You can still reserve your seats for tonight and Monday's musical events.
Reserve your seats online at RESERVATIONS.
It's Festival Month here in Denton and this weekend starts off with the Arts and Jazz Fest. We hope you will make Steve's your stop before, during, and after your time at the park. We have wine and beer to go by the bottle and the glass. Yes, you can grab a glass of something from Steve's to walk with here in Downtown Denton. Bring your cooler by and let us fill it with chilled beer and cool wines, and we'll toss in some beverage cups in case you forgot yours. :-)
October 12th is Geezer Palooza, aka Industrial Street Pop Fest. We will have our large tent set up on the street for our customers to come and sit in the shade and enjoy the festivities.
October 25th - 27th is Day of the Dead. Saturday the 26th we will have a tent out front serving ice-cold beers and chilled wines to walk with. Of course we will have our full menu available inside. And we will be showing the Coffin Races on our TV's inside and on the back patio for those who don't want to stand in the crowd.
Did you know that Steve's was voted as having the best wine list in Denton,
as well as a top shop for wine.
Have a great week and we look forward to seeing you soon!
Cheers! From all of us here at Steve's Wine Bar.
We hope you had an amazing weekend and are enjoying this cooler weather!
Some of you will read the subject line one way, and some will read it another.
Are you the one reading it as relaxed anticipation of "Ahhhh.....finally we are into the fall."?
Or, are you one reading it as "AHHHHHHHHHHHH.....NO. I can't believe October is here already!"?
We are looking at it both ways. We can't believe it's October as it came way too fast. But on the other hand, it's patio weather. It's festival season, and Denton is officially Halloween City of Texas! We have Jazz Fest, Industrial Street Pop Fest, Day of the Dead Fest, and there are likely other events we are not including.
October tends to be our second busiest month of the year next to December with the help of all the festivals happening, and much nicer weather to enjoy on the patio here in Downtown Denton.
We hope you will use Steve's Wine Bar as your base of operations when visiting Downtown for any, and all festivals and activities. With wine and beer to go, specials with a Halloween them, and just great tasting beverages, we hope you will make us your first stop before wandering around Denton. And YES, you can walk with a beer or a glass of wine in your hand while you enjoy the sights and sounds of Downtown Denton.
I mentioned in the last email that the roads around us are no longer blocked off due to construction. When you come down to Steve's, parking will be a little easier without the barriers. We suggest that if you can't find parking right in front or back of the wine bar, park at the church lot half a block away. It's super convenient and as long as you have your car out of the lot by midnight, everything should be fine.
So let's talk about the start of the next season here at Steve's.
Tonight at 7:00, we have another amazing guest vocalist, with Alyssa Allgood visiting from Chicago. If you attended our special "concert" back in February with Nicole Zuraitis, we think you will have a similar experience tonight. We still have a few reserved seats at $15, but when they are sold out, the cover charge tonight will be $20. So jump online ASAP before the reserved seats are sold out.
Tomorrow night, we have Shelly Denning in-house doing a special arts and crafts program 6:30 to 8:30.
Wednesday evening we have a new talent to Steve's Wine Bar with Alexandra Tayara hosting a solo show.
Saturday afternoon at a special time, 5 pm, we have another solo act with Júlia Coelho with a very special musical program on vocals, gothic harp, loop pedal, and psaltery. $10 reservations are still available.
Sunday is Birthday Sunday from 5 - 7 pm. Did you or a family member have a birthday this month? Come on down and enjoy a complimentary glass of wine or beer for the birthday person, and light snacks and sweets to enjoy with your beverages. Please reserve your spots as it will help us plan on the right amount of food to have for everyone.
Monday night is another special concert with Award Winning Saxophonist, Jack Lanhardt.
Tuesday is the first day of October, and it's the kick-off of Halloween here in Downtown Denton. We have a special evening planned with Lady Cass and the Fellas. Join us as we start the fun for October with some fun and "spooky" music with Cassandra Berry.
With all the events happening in Denton, rather than compete with them, we are keeping our event schedule on the lighter side for the month of October.
Every Thursday in October there will be live music right across the street from us in the park with the return of Twilight Tunes. Industrial Street will be closed on Thursday nights and we will be putting tables and chairs out front for our customers to sit and enjoy the music. Every Thursday is our Half-Price bottles, so come on down and take advantage of that along with any of the specials we will have for October.
Monday the 7th we will have the Brad Leali Tentet back for another amazing night of music.
Saturday the 19th we will have The Cats back for another special concert.
Stay tuned as we sprinkle in more solo performances and special afternoon experiences for you to enjoy.
Reserve your seats online at RESERVATIONS.
People have been asking about Cigars. We had neglected to renew our Permit on time and are now waiting for the updated Permit to be delivered. As soon as that is done, we will move our Humidor back out to the main space and be ready to support your cigar needs when visiting Steve's.
Steve and Karen will be away from the bar for most of October. The staff here at Steve's look forward to serving you, your friends, and your family while they are away. They have put a lot of trust in the team to keep the business rolling, and we hope you will be here to support the team. With your help, we can continue to make October the second busiest month of the year here at Steve's.
Have a great week and we look forward to seeing you soon!
Cheers! From all of us here at Steve's Wine Bar.
Through our partnership with non-profit environmental conservation organizations, Vina Robles plants trees with a portion of the proceeds from every bottle of The Arborist sold.
Partnering with One Tree Planted and the Arbor Day Foundation is a natural extension of the winery’s passion for trees and sustainable viticulture. One Tree Planted is a non-profit organization on a mission to make it simple for everyone to help the environment by planting trees. Founded in 2014, One Tree Planted has doubled the number of trees it has planted every year.
"The Arborist, a dynamic red blend, is dedicated to our founder Hans Nef, and named for the arborist who saved the life of the iconic 300+ year-old oak tree featured on our label. Mr. Nef was known for his love of trees; he named the winery for them (robles is Spanish for “oaks”) and put an oak tree on the first Vina Robles wine label. That same tree still exists and is rooted in our estate Jardine Vineyard. Which is rather profound, as its health was declining when Mr. Nef purchased the vineyard in 1997. We are grateful to the arborist who was able to save it in 2014, allowing us all to continue to benefit from its beauty and positive environmental impact."
So….how are we doing?
Is the new format of the email working well for you?
Are you finding the information you are most interested in more quickly?
There is so much going on and so little “time” to share the details.
So here we go….
Upcoming Events
Get your advance seating online.
You can learn more about all that is happening this month online at Events.
Cigars: We have restocked the humidors with many of the customer favorites we were either out of or very low on inventory. With the weather improving, we are ready for those wine lovers who enjoy a nice cigar on the patio. Smoking is available on our Russell Street patio.
Speaking of Patio Weather….we have our outdoor glass covers available for sale to keep those annoying critters out of your glass of wine or beer. You can pick up a single cover or a set of 4. Come check them out here at the bar, or order online for pick up here at Steve's. Our-Wines-and-Products/Merchandise
Travel Events: We are excited to be working with Walter and Kim Eagleton on a trip to France in 2024 for Steve's Wine Bar guests. Specifically to the Burgundy and Beaujolais regions. We have booked the chateau for two weeks. There is still room available for those interested in spending the first week of the trip with us in October of 2024. You can learn more online at Artistic Gourmet Travel October 2024.
Paso Robles Tastings: We are headed to Paso Robles the week of June 4 - 10. We have been in contact with some of our favorite wineries plus several we have not yet visited. If you are interested in joining us for tastings in Paso, send us an email and we will let you what the plans are as of the time of the email.
March Birthdays: We are going to add a little more fun to this month. March is Steve's birth month and we want to invite everyone who has a Birthday in March to come out on Sunday, March 26th from 5 to 7pm for a Birthday drink. We will have select wines available to enjoy as a complimentary glass of wine for your Birthday. Prefer a beer? You can enjoy a beer on us for your Birthday as well. So mark your calendars and come join us for a Sunday afternoon party.
In closing, we thank you for your amazing support! And to all the new (and old) customers visiting us for the first time here on Industrial, thanks for visiting with us. We are so pleased to hear all the positive comments about the space from those who are seeing the space for the first time. The patio on the front and back, the space in general, and how much everyone appreciates the musical experiences we have put together.
Have a great day and we'll see you soon!
Cheers!
Steve, Karen and the entire Steve’s Wine Bar Team.
Welcome to March! Well, for those reading this on February 28, farewell February!
We are trying a little different format to the email today. Quick hits first, then a brief written update.
Blind Tasting Events: They start tonight. If you are considering attending all 4, grab the "4-pack" reservation today as it will go away after the tasting tonight.
The first blind tasting is 7 - 8:30pm tonight, and the theme is "Where is this wine from?"
Go online and reserve your seats at one or more of these tastings.

Live Music and the Cover Charge: We have been asked several times by guests who come into the bar when we have live music if they have to pay the cover charge for the band if they are here to "just drink". The simple answer is yes. We find that most people do come in during live music to enjoy both the wine and the music. But, if they are truly here to just have a glass of wine, people can sit on the front patio without having to pay a cover charge. In the past we have charged cover to sit on the back patio as we normally broadcast the show to the patio so people can enjoy the music outdoors.
Our Monday Night special listening events have been quite well received and we have two more coming up in March. The first is next Monday, March 6th with the Greg Waits Nonet - Small Big Band. Seats are avaialble to reserve online for the event. The next one will be March 27th with a special performance with Rosana Eckert. We will have more info and reservations online soon.
Blind Tasting Events: We are kicking off our Blind Tasting series tonight at 7pm. We still have seats available but get your reservation in early today as we will be ordering the cheese board from 10:1 Artisan Cheese at noon today.
We have four weeks of blind tasting events each Tuesday evening starting on the 28th. Each week we will have a different "theme". On the 28th, we will focus on 4 wines from 4 distinct regions of the wine world, and the challenge is to identify where each wine is from. On March 7th we will be looking at "what grape is in my glass?" The following week will be "Is this sweet or fruity?" And the final week we will taste 4 wines and the challenge will be to identify what price range each wine falls into. You can register for one or more events individually, or if you like, you can purchase the 4 weeks up front and save a few $'s. Along with tasting the wines, we will be working with our friends at 10:1 Cheese to have something to pair with each wine.

Wine Club: The March wine club wines have been chosen and are being delivered this week. We will be kicking off our March club tastings this Friday afternoon! For those club members who missed the February tasting, you can taste through Friday and after that, you can still come in during the month of March and pick a couple of bottles from the list. We will have a couple of the wines still open by the glass in March as they were a hit this last month.
Not a wine club member? You can learn more online at Steve's Wine Bar Wine Club.
Have a great day and we'll see you soon!
Cheers!
Steve, Karen and the entire Steve’s Wine Bar Team.
Time is moving forward and February is wrapping up in just 7 days. Over the next several days we have some fun things happening here at Steve's as we look forward to amazing music, fun tastings, and great friends.
Live Music: This last week was fantastic! With the great music from all the musicians who came in to perform, especially the Tixier brothers on our special Monday night event. We continue that musical experience this week with The Pan-Tones Wednesday evening, then Friday with special guest artist from NY, saxophonist Jeff Antoniuk, Irish music Saturday afternoon, and the Ed Soph Trio on Saturday evening. You don't get much better than that anywhere in the country.

Special Wines: We purchased a special wine from Piattelli Vineyards in Argentina for Valentines Day called the Arlene. It was a hit by the glass and several people have purchased a bottle. We still have a few bottles left, so consider grabbing one for your next special dinner or party.
"The Arlene is an elegant and rare vintage like none we have released or experienced at Piattelli." - Alejandro Nesman, Winemaker, Piattelli.
We also picked up a really fun Cabernet from our friends at Vina Robles in Paso Robles, CA; the Mountain Road Reserve Cabernet. Another big bodied, full flavored Cabernet Sauvignon. Quantities are limited, so make sure to grab a bottle or two in the next couple of weeks.
Check out the calendar online to see what events and experiences we have scheduled in the days to come and make your reservation.
We hope to see you this week, and if not, then some day over the next couple of weeks.

Happy Super Bowl Sunday! We hope your day is a going well, and if you have a "horse in the race" we wish you good luck on a big win!
Even though we do not have Big Plans for today, we will have the game on our TV's with sound and we will be pouring amazing wines, and plenty of options on beer too! Looking to enjoy some patio time? We'll have the TV and sound going on the back patio and if you wish to enjoy a cigar during the game, we have a nice selction to consider. So come join us if you do not have any party plans in place today, or you just need to get away from house. Don't forget, you can bring your own food, so feel free to order up from one of the restaurants around us, or bring in your own Sunday game-day spread.
Tomorrow (Monday) we have the amazing Tixier brothers performing at 7pm. We have sold out of the advance reserve seats, but we still have room available if you desire to stop in and join us for the concert. Doors will officially open at 6pm and the music is planned to start at 7pm. This is not a "business as usual" night as will not be doing wine tastings and other activities so we can create a quiet space to listen and enjoy these amazing musicians.
Tuesday is Valentines Day. We have some fun options for those looking to have a very special glass of wine with their loved one, plus a cholcolate and a rose.
We have purchased a special wine from Piattelli Vineyards in Argentina. High in the Andes surrounding Salta, Piattelli’s Cafayate wines are made from select estate fruit grown at over 5,900 feet elevation. The splendor of this area, with its pure water and extreme thermal amplitudes produce grapes bursting with flavor, which make this not only one of the most beautiful, but also one of the premier grape growing regions in the world. The Arlene is an award winning red blend of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc, aged 18 months in French & American oak barrels.
"The Arlene is an elegant and rare vintage like none we have released or experienced at Piattelli." - Alejandro Nesman, Winemaker, Piattelli.
When we had a chance to taste this wine a couple of weeks ago with the representative from the winery, we felt is was special enough to bring in just for this Valentine's evening. Plus the story that goes along with it is perfect for Valentine's Day. So stop in and hear the story and have a glass or two with us this Tuesday.
We will have a "package" that includes 1 glass of the Arlene, chocolate from Candy Haven, and a yellow rose (you will know why when you hear the Arlene Story) for $35. If you wish to simply enjoy a glass sans chocolate and the rose, it is $25.
Prefer a different wine from a red blend? We will be doing a similar package with any of our wines on our By-the-Glass Menu with the chocolate and a rose for $25.
On Wednesday night we have a special performance with Ginny Mac. We have sold out of all our table seating for the evening, but like our Monday concert, we will have room for people to sit at the bar, the patio, and the tasting room.
We hope to see you this week, and if not, then some day over the next couple of weeks.

July 26th, Micah Walker, our in-house cigar guy, will be working with me to craft a different pairing of select cigars, wine and beer which we will enjoy on the patio. We will do a special priced pairing during Sunday afternoon and early evening. Plan to join us for our first cigar special event.

We have an immediate change in our operations for the coming week(s).
In anticipation that the City of Denton will be implementing restrictions on restaurants and bars, we will be holding off serving beverages for on-premise enjoyment. We have also cancelled all live music for this coming week. We will evaluate the plans after this weekend and see what the rest of the month holds for us.
We anticipate the restaurants around us are able to and will offer food to-go and delivery and we hope you will support our neighbors by ordering food from them.
Steve’s Wine Bar is in a unique position as our TABC license allows us to sell wine and beer to-go!
With that said, we will stay open to offer our customers and club members the opportunity to stop by and pick up wine and beer to-go. When you order food from the restaurants around us, consider stopping into Steve’s and purchase some wine or beer to pair with your meal. And even a glass of wine to-go while you wait for your food to be prepared.
During this time we will have to reduce our staff. You may see at times only Karen and/or Steve here at the bar. As you know, all of our people are very important to us and they will see a reduction in income due to the loss of hours worked.
We want to be able to help them out during this time period and we have several ways you can help them and the business.

As always, thank you for your support, your friendship, and love.
Cheers!

Happy Friday!
Are you looking forward to a beautiful weekend as much as I am? I certainly am excited and thankful about the beautiful weather, and the upcoming fun activities here at the wine bar.
I am also especially thankful for all the wonderful support we receive from you, all of our guests, and especially our team here at Steve’s! The fun and great experiences we have had over the last 10 months here at the new location have been very special. Karen and I were speaking about this last night with a few people at the UNT One O’Clock Lab Band concert about how, at times, we feel completely unworthy of the growing success that has been created here in Denton. We can always say thank you to you for being part of our project, but I am sure we don’t express how deeply that thankfulness goes in our hearts. Thank you for believing in us as well as supporting us as we continue to try new things and of course new wine here at Steve’s.
I wanted to send you an email about some upcoming events here at Steve’s over the next week and some highlights of weeks to come.
Tonight at 8:30pm we have the Friends4 Band with Vocalist Natalie Gandy. And a special birthday gathering for our friend Angela!
Tomorrow 3pm we have our Dance and Wine Specialist, Cher, teaching a dance class focusing on the Merengue. I don’t know what memory or vision this brings to your mind….but I think of the movie Dirty Dancing when I hear Merengue. The class starts at 3pm and runs to 5pm. $35 per person includes the lesson and a glass of wine (or beer)! Tickets are on sale at steveswinebar.com.
Saturday evening we have a quiet night without music. Yes, even on a Saturday night, it’s nice to offer a bit of down time for our club members and guests to kickback and simply enjoy an evening with friends and good conversation.
Sunday afternoon at 1pm we are hosting the Denton Benefit Leagues annual Tea. This will be the first time at Steve’s, and we hope that everyone enjoys the gathering and the specials on Mimosa’s, Bellini’s and other sparkling sippers….and of course the tea.
Sunday evening at 6pm we have our first ever Trivia Night lead by the our very own Kylie Macentee, also known worldwide as Midnight Lucy. So, if you are in the mood for some trivia fun, come on down and join the party.
Looking at the first week in March we have a couple more “quiet nights” for our guests on Tuesday and Friday, then we go into the rest of the month with music every night! The list of music events is long, but a few you should be aware which are unique are:
Saturday March 7th we have two shows that evening with our special guest, bassist Eddie Gomez. Rather than a cover charge, we are selling tickets to each show. They are $15 a person to be up close and personal with Eddie, Ed Soph, and Stefan Karlsson. Or if you wish to stay the entire night, tickets are $25. We anticipate the seats will sell out, so get your order in now. You can purchase your tickets online today!
Starting on Monday March 16th and then the following three Mondays, we are hosting the UNT Jazz Combo Concert series. This is a special night to come in and hear some of the best jazz talent UNT has to offer. Each night will start at 5pm (doors will open at 4pm) and you will experience 4 jazz combos performing 20-30 minute sets of music. The event will wrap up before 8pm and we will close up for the evening by 9pm. The events are free to attend. If this interests you, please mark your calendar for March 16th, 23rd, 30th and April 6th. All concerts will run 5-7:30pm.
Also in March, on Saturday the 21st, we are doing a special musical tribute to Lyle Mays, who recently passed away. Lyle was an 11-time Grammy award winner pianist, wrote and arranged nearly all the music with the great Pat Metheny Group, and of course is one of the most recognized UNT Jazz Alumni. The event will start at 8pm and run through 10:30pm. We will have several special guests sitting in throughout the night along with special video tributes from others who cannot make it back to Denton for this event.
Thursday, March 26th, 8 – 10pm, one other special event we will be hosting in March will be a performance by trumpet player Mike Steinel and his quintet. Mike and his band are recording a new CD. While a few of his band members are in town from other parts of the country for the recording session we will host them that evening for this special performance.
As I mentioned earlier in the email, there is a lot of music happening here in March, with music every night beginning on the 10th. Stay tuned for all of the events as we post those online at steveswinebar.com and on our Facebook page.

"Music is the wine that fills the cup of silence" - Robert Fripp.
People wonder if the glass is half empty or half full…they miss the point….the glass is refillable!
We love filling your glass with music and wine. Thank you for allowing us to do so!
Once again, thank you for all your support! Have a fantastic weekend!
